Purpose and preparation

Give a PDF a meaningful document title and the correct primary language, then review language changes within its content. These settings support identification and pronunciation; they do not replace structural remediation.

A practical example

A bilingual welcome pack opens with a file name and reads Spanish passages using the English voice rules.

How to check it

Set a descriptive document title in the source or PDF properties and verify how the viewer displays it. Avoid relying on an opaque file name.
Set the primary language and mark meaningful passages in another language where the format supports it. Check names and loanwords according to the relevant exception.
Open the distributed PDF and listen to representative passages. Record the title, language settings and any pronunciation issue that remains.

What can be missed

A language property does not translate content. Changing the whole document's language to fix one paragraph can make the rest harder to understand.
