WCAG 2.3.3: Animation from Interactions

What this criterion means
At Level AAA, users can disable motion animation triggered by interaction unless that motion is essential. Respecting reduced-motion preferences is a practical starting point for scroll, transition and parallax effects.
A practical example
A card expands with a long zoom and sweeping background movement. When reduced motion is requested, show the expanded state directly while preserving the action and information.
How to check it
- Inventory motion caused by clicks, focus, scrolling, dragging and route changes.
- Enable the supported reduced-motion setting or equivalent site control and repeat those interactions.
- Verify that nonessential motion stops while state changes, orientation cues and required information remain understandable.
What can be missed
Removing only the initial page animation leaves interactive motion untested. A transition that communicates a state can often be replaced with an immediate state change rather than treated as essential.
