WCAG 2.3.2: Three Flashes

What this criterion means
At Level AAA, nothing on the page flashes more than three times in any one-second period. This enhanced rule removes the general-flash and red-flash threshold alternative available at Level A.
A practical example
A celebration effect creates a rapid flashing border after checkout. Replace it with a steady confirmation and a non-flashing visual change so the completion state does not introduce the effect.
How to check it
- Inventory all moving assets and state-change effects, including user-triggered celebrations.
- Analyze the actual sequence for any one-second interval containing more than three flashes.
- Remove or redesign any effect exceeding that frequency and retain the assessment with the asset record.
What can be missed
Do not reuse a Level A threshold exemption for an AAA claim. Avoid creating a flashing demonstration solely to test this requirement; use safe analysis methods.
