WCAG 2.1.3: Keyboard (No Exception)

What this criterion means
At Level AAA, every function must have keyboard operation without precisely timed individual keystrokes. Unlike 2.1.1, this enhanced criterion does not allow the path-dependent function exception.
A practical example
A drawing lesson offers pointer sketching and an alternative keyboard interface for constructing the required shapes. The team evaluates the complete drawing function rather than stopping after the toolbar buttons work.
How to check it
- Inventory all functions, including drawing surfaces, games and specialized interactions.
- Identify keyboard actions that achieve each function without required keystroke timing.
- Complete the same outcomes with the keyboard and record any function for which no equivalent operation exists.
What can be missed
Do not report an AA keyboard pass as evidence of this stricter AAA requirement. The missing path-dependent exception matters for products built around freehand movement.
