Review WordPress Image Alt Text in Context
Published by whatisADA / Grow Wild Agency · Updated
Purpose and preparation
Review image alternatives on the rendered WordPress page, not only in the media library. Record the theme and relevant block or plugin, because an image can appear in several contexts with different purposes.
A practical example
A product photograph appears as a linked card on an archive and as an informative image in an article.
How to check it
- Identify the image's purpose in each placement. Inspect the block's alternative-text setting and the rendered image's actual accessible alternative.
- Use a concise description for information, a purpose-oriented name for an image-only link, or an empty alternative for decoration where appropriate.
- Preview and publish the intended change, then inspect the live page and responsive variants. Check that cached markup or a custom theme has not retained an old value.
What can be missed
Updating a media-library field does not necessarily update every existing use. The same file can need different treatment in a card, article and decorative banner.
Record your test

These are your observations, not automated results or a conformance certificate. A complete evaluation needs appropriate scope, supported technologies, all applicable criteria and relevant page states.
