Review Shopify Product Media Accessibility
Published by whatisADA / Grow Wild Agency · Updated
Purpose and preparation
Inspect the product gallery as a shopping task, including alternatives, controls and media behavior. Record the theme and gallery app because product media can be rendered differently across storefronts.
A practical example
A product has several angle photographs, a demonstration video and a 3D view used to explain its dimensions.
How to check it
- Review each media item's contribution and add useful alternatives where appropriate. Keep essential dimensions and product facts available as ordinary text.
- Navigate gallery thumbnails, zoom views and video controls with the keyboard. Check names, selected states, focus and dismissal.
- Review captions or other media alternatives and test the mobile gallery. Confirm that a customer can understand the product without operating a 3D view.
What can be missed
A product description can contain important information that should not exist only inside a video or rotating model. Theme and app updates can change gallery behavior.
Record your test
Use this worksheet to record what you actually checked. Notes stay on this device when you choose Save; they are not sent to us. Avoid personal or confidential information on shared devices.
These are your observations, not automated results or a conformance certificate. A complete evaluation needs appropriate scope, supported technologies, all applicable criteria and relevant page states.
Primary sources and scope
This is independent implementation guidance with original examples. The linked standard contains the full definitions, exceptions and conformance requirements. A criterion or checklist alone does not establish legal applicability or whole-site conformance.
