What this criterion means
Within the same process, information already entered by or provided to the user and required again should be auto-filled or selectable, unless re-entry is essential, security-related or the prior information is no longer valid.
A practical example
A checkout asks for a billing address after collecting a shipping address. Offer “Use shipping address” and preserve the earlier values, while allowing a different billing address when needed.
How to check it
- Walk through the complete process and note repeated requests for the same information.
- Check that previous values are populated or offered for selection at the later step.
- Change earlier data and verify that the reuse option updates correctly; document any valid security or freshness exception.
What can be missed
Browser autofill alone is not a dependable replacement for the process making earlier information available. The rule is about the same process, not a requirement to retain every value across unrelated visits.
