WCAG 2.5.4: Motion Actuation

What this criterion means
Functions triggered by device or user motion need an interface-control alternative, and the motion response can be disabled unless a defined exception applies. A person may have a mounted device or move involuntarily.
A practical example
A form clears when the phone is shaken. Provide a visible Clear form action with appropriate protection, and a setting that disables shake activation while keeping the normal control available.
How to check it
- Identify actions triggered by shaking, tilting, camera-tracked movement or similar motion.
- Complete each function through ordinary interface controls.
- Disable motion activation and verify that accidental movement no longer triggers the action, while checking any supported-interface or essential exception.
What can be missed
An alternative control addresses only one part of the criterion. Users also need to prevent unintended motion activation where the requirement applies.
