WCAG 2.2.3: No Timing

What this criterion means
At Level AAA, activities do not make timing essential except for non-interactive synchronized media and real-time events. This goes beyond offering extra time under the Level A timing criterion.
A practical example
A training quiz scores learners on both correctness and a countdown. An untimed assessment route lets a learner demonstrate the same knowledge without speed being part of the task.
How to check it
- List activities that require a response, completion or decision within a period.
- Determine whether timing is part of the activity and whether a listed exception applies.
- Complete the activity using a route where timing is not essential, checking that the outcome remains available.
What can be missed
A generous countdown can still make timing essential. Evaluate this criterion separately from session-extension controls and document any real-time event exception.
